On Sunday 10th July the Hamble Star Class Association held on open day at Erith Yacht Club on the Thames. 13 Hamble Stars lined up to show off the new sails that were purchased with a grant from Awards for All. 11 Hamble Stars raced in a triangle-sausage stlye course.

The tide was beatable, with so little wind, if you took the correct course. Those who have sailed at Erith for many years did just this, including Dave Munge, ex EYC member and former olympic Star sailor of another sort, helmed Hamble Star 106 with Robert Taylor as crew - they led until the third mark when they were overtaken by Star 115 Richard Banner (EYC) with Peter and Mary Robinson as crew.

A stroke of bad luck within metres of the line, meant that Star 111 (EYC) Bob Saunders and crew Helen and Bethany, had to retire without finishing, thereby losing their third place to the bemused Jeremy Strong Star 29, (EYC)and crew Sarah and Vicky.

Medals were awarded to winners and youngsters.
