Haven Ports Yacht Club Autumn Series - Overall

by Chris Dawson 15 Nov 2014 15:45 GMT 9 November 2014

"Beware of sports boats coming up fast"

HPYC brand new sports boats fleet ended its first Autumn Series on an adrenalin pumping high. The 9 boat sports fleet has grown rapidly since its conception and in one year has established itself with a mixture of five Melges 24s, 2 Hunter 707s, and 2 J24s.

20 knots gusting 30 knots set the scene for some very exciting close boat sailing and allowed the helms and crews to really let rip and enjoy this fast action experience achieving speeds of around 18- 20 knots downwind.

These amazingly exciting style of boats offer a great alternative for dingy sailors who want to move into something larger but don't want to lose the thrill of speed and close contact sailing. They offer excellent value for money and do not require the full time commitment and expense that comes with owning a large racing yacht.

Such is the appeal that we have witnessed two IRC yachts skippers moving from their X35 & X33 into Melges 24s and bringing a lot of experience with them.

The Autumn series was won by 'Why Not' sailed by Ben Stone & Milly Dawson with father Chris Dawson in 'New Tricks' kept firmly in second place.

Next year looks even more exciting with a further 2 Melges on the way to join HPYC for the Spring series which is promising to be a whole lot of fun.

If you are interested in joining us in the HPYC sports fleet either as a new boat or crew for some of the existing boats please call Ben Stone on 07875 391808.
