Guy Fawkes Pursuit Race at Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club

by Paul Heath 3 Nov 2014 13:56 GMT 2 November 2014

On the 2nd November 2014 Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club hosted their annual Guy Fawkes pursuit race which signals the start of their Revett and Crewsaver sponsored Tipsy Icicle series open winter series, details of which can be found here.

The day started off bright and breezy with a south westerly force 3 for the lone Optimist sailor who led the 67 strong fleet off at 12.40pm. Minute by minute the other boats started and so began the game of catch up but the wind strength began to decrease and there were plenty of holes around the course in which to fall into as you waited for a gust to get you going again.

In the end class always comes through and so it was that Andy Couch (Rudyard Lake SC) in his Phantom glided through the fleet with impressive boat speed and tactical decisions to claim first place. Second and third place went to two boats from the largest fleet of the day, which boasted 19 boats, the Solos of Steve Denison (Hollingworth Lake SC) and Lee Tennant (Burwain SC) The top five was rounded off by the Scorpion of Steve Walker and Jerry Hannaboss (Pennine SC) and the first junior entry of Archie Leckie and Harvey Leigh (LLSC) in an RS Feva XL.

This coming Sunday sees the start of the LLSC Revett series running for 6 Sundays consisting of 2 races a day with the first race starting at midday. Details of this and the other events planned plus how to enter on-line at a discounted rate for these events (for a limited period only) can be found at www.llsc.org.uk/1/2014/10/20145-winter-series-preview-not-long-till-the-guy-fawkes-pursuit-revett-series.
