Mark Chisnell reports on the second week of action in the Volvo Ocean Race as one big play finishes and another begins. Abu Dhabi and Team Brunel scoot free of the Doldrums in the lead, with a tradition-defying Team Vestas Wind in third place.
Blissful trade wind sailing followed, before the St Helena High loomed on the horizon blocking the route to Cape Town.
West was Best!
We left the fleet a week ago just as they ran into the Doldrums. On the afternoon of the 21st October, the front row were lined up west to east, left to right; Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, Team Brunel, Dongfeng Race Team, MAPFRE and Team Vestas Wind.
