Laser and Streaker Open at Scammonden Water Sailing Club

Scammonden Water Sailing Club in West Yorkshire hosted a joint Laser and Streaker Open on Sunday, September 7.

The Laser sailors took to the water in Open which saw light wind sailing skills put to the test with just 6mph north westerly winds to play with.

Visitor Ian Jones, of Dovestone Sailing Club, sailed home the winner, followed by Adrian Sandilands in second and Malcolm Marsden of Blackpool Yacht Club in third place.

First home sailor was Paul Cornish in 7th place and first of the radials was Haydn Griffiths of Leigh and Lowton SC in 10th place.

In the Streaker Open - the first staged at SWSC - home club sailor Ben Ratcliffe won the top spot.

As with the Lasers, light patchy winds proved to be a challenge, but one that could be overcome for many.

Second place was fellow SWSC sailor Ian Lees in second place and Steve Blackburn, of West Lancashire Yacht Club, in third place.

£10,000 Sport England grant
For Scammonden Water Sailing Club Scammonden Water Sailing Club has been awarded a £10,000 grant from Sport England. The West Yorkshire-based club received the funding boost to help buy two new Wayfarer training boats for the clubs growing training centre. Posted on 30 Jun 2013
