The RS classes will be heading to Ullswater Yacht Club for a weekend of racing on September 13 and 14.
The RS event is the final weekend in a new Open programme held at the club this year which has also seen new combined meetings for Skiffs and Keelboats as well as the ever-popular must-do event of the year, the Lord Birkett Trophy.
The RS fleets were out in force at the Birkett on July 5 and 6 with more than 30 RS400s, RS200s and Vareos among the 210 boats taking part in the long distance races. And for the second year running, the event was won by an RS400 – this year Chris Pickles and Matt Sharman of Delph SC took the coveted Birkett Trophy. Alistair and Thomas Coates, of Leigh & Lowton SC took first prize in the RS200 fleet.
The RS fleet will be back again for more exciting windward/leeward racing at their own special weekend with a minimum of six races planned and class starts for RS400, RS200, RS Vareo, plus a handicap start for any other RS classes. The event is part of this year's RS200 Northern Circuit and the RS Vareo Grand Prix programme.
Registration will be in the clubhouse on Saturday, September 13, from 9.30am to 11am and a competitors' briefing will be held at noon. The entry form and notice of race is on the UYC website: www.ullswateryachtclub.org.
Camping and campervan facilities will be available in the 'Birkett' field next to the club site and the UYC galley will be open all weekend for delicious meals, drinks and snacks.
UYC is on the North-east shore of the lake about two miles from Pooley Bridge on the Howtown road.
