Without races due to lack of wind, the championship came to its end today with yesterday's results. Eduardo de Souza Ramos' Pajero Mitsubishi was crowned champion of the traditional event held in Ilhabela.

Under unstable conditions, with an unsteady 4-6 knots wind, the windward leeward course scheduled for today couldn't start and the possibilities of becoming champion that had Roberto Martin's Carioca fade away. "Pajero's title is well deserved, they were strong all week. We had a bad second day, with a penalty while we were fighting for the first position and an OCS in the second race that day. That was the main difference in the final result. Pajero's work is evident and as they keep sailing together in TP52 the level of the Soto 40 Class in Brazil will grow", pointed out André Mirsky, Carioca's tactician.

Pajero Mitsubishi's crew was almost the same that won the second place in the TP52 World Championship onboard Phoenix. Its tactician, the double Olympic medalist Santiago Lange, said: "The entire championship was difficult; we had very close and tight races. Long distance races were complicated as we sailed with strong current and calm", referring to the conditions that the boats had to face during the first and the last race of the event.

Crioula 29 representing the Veleiros do Sul Club, which was the winner in the last edition of this event, took the third podium place. Magia V Energisa of the multiple Olympic medalist Torben Grael and Crioula 03 finished fourth and fifth position overall, respectively. This last boat took onboard the Wind Power crew of the Royal Cape Yacht Club (Cape Town, South Africa), which made its debut in the Soto 40 Class and proved that it also has a great level.

The Ilhabela Sailing Week took place on July 19-26 and was organized by the Yacht Club de Ilhabela. The next date for the Soto 40 Class will be the Off Valparaíso Race that will be held in Chile.
