The Toppers are heading back to Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club for their final event in the 2014 CraftInsure 5.3 and Virtual Rigger 4.2 National Series before the GBR Nationals and ITCA Worlds in August.
2014 has seen Topper sailors race at WPNSA, Queen Mary, Grafham & Paignton – with the 4.2 fleet also racing at Northampton.
Almost 130 helms have already registered for this key indicator event for Topper 5.3 sailors looking for selection into the National Squads for 2014/15.
Natalie Lloyd, incoming RYA Topper National Squad Coach, will be afloat to watch the sailors demonstrate their race skills.
Squad applications are open through the RYA website for all Topper squads - 5.3, 4.2 and Zone squads.
Set in a beautiful Pennine valley on the border between Northumberland and Durham and bounded by moorland and conifers, Derwent Reservoir is perfectly located and is within easy reach of Newcastle Upon Tyne.
The sailing club has good views of racing on the western end of the lake, however, you could also view from Millshields Picnic Area, Pow Hill Country Park, Cronkley or the Dam Wall. If you are down on the shore, please beware of the fly fishermen!
Entries are still open for the Crewsaver GBR 5.3 Nationals and Virtual Rigger 4.2 Summer Championships in August at Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli Sailing Club on the ITCA(GBR) website. A discount is available for sailors entering the Zhik Topper World Championships at the same time.
