Combined Harbour Regatta at Portchester Sailing Club

by Alex Powell 20 Jun 2014 16:12 BST 14 June 2014

Saturday 14th June saw the Combined Harbour Regatta hosted this year by Portchester SC. A fantastic turn out of 40+ boats participated with starts split between cruisers, Victory keelboats and dinghies. The dinghy fleet comprised of 16 boats and lined up for a Committee Boat start and a tour around some less familiar harbour marks.

The RS400s set the pace with a downwind start and spinnakers flying, and this proved to be the bench mark for the rest of the fleet to follow. Burden and Lester had the lead on multiple occasions, but could not handle the downwind pace of Team Oakey, fresh from their open meeting victory in similar wind conditions.

Alex Powell led the Solo / slow fleet for the majority of the race but was overtaken by Chris Davies as they reached the fluky winds by the finish, only for an uncharacteristic Davies error on the finish line allowing another Powell first Solo and 3rd overall.

There was much to discuss in the Bar as the music and beer flowed into a great evening's Club entertainment.

Overall Results:

1st Team Oakey
2nd Burden and 'red' Lester
3rd A.Powell

Full race results and photos can be found on the PSC website, portchestersc.org.
