18 RS Teras gathered at Dalgety Bay sailing club for the first of five Tera events in Scotland in 2014. Dalgety Bay sailing club have recently acquired a fleet of five new Teras with the help of the Eric Twiname Trust and RS, and with boats from other fleets from other sailing clubs like Wormit and Royal Tay, we were set for a great day.
Unfortunately the forecast proved correct with winds of 30 knots plus building throughout the day. But with a good cover of safety boats on the water from Dalgety Bay, and coaches available to help out, we managed at least to get some sailing for virtually all the 18 kids present, sending them out with reefed sails and loads of confidence!
Everyone did amazingly well in some really windy conditions with Ross and Eilean Mauritzen definitely loving the big winds so much that we had trouble keeping them off the water, and with some great sailing from everyone on the day.
It's a shame we couldn't put any racing on through the day, but everyone came ashore smiling and definitely found out that they can sail and control their boat in a lot more wind than they originally thought and had a good day with games also on the shore and some onshore coaching.
Big thanks to Dalgety for trying so hard for us, and trying so hard to make sure we got some sailing in, putting on excellent catering for everyone and hopefully we can rearrange another date in the diary later in the year.
Next event in Scottish Tera diary is 26th/27th July at Royal Findhorn yacht club up near Inverness. This is a great venue, excellent club, fantastic beaches and village, camping and coaching and racing available both days. Boats available to borrow for this event, please get in touch through Scottish Tera website at scottishteras.weebly.com if interested in borrowing a boat for an event or a demo sail at your club.
