28-29 June 2014
This year the Portsmouth Regatta has been resurrected to celebrate 150 years of the Royal Albert Yacht Club and 80 years of the Victory Class, the intention is to keep it going in future years. The first Portsmouth Regatta was held in 1827 and it was a major event every year from the mid 1850s until the First World War.
The racing will organised by Portsmouth Sailing Club with plans well advanced to make the Regatta a big success. High tide on the Saturday will be 13:10 and it is proposed that racing will start at mid-day to allow time for boats to get to the racing area which will either be on the Spit or to the East of Southsea pier taking into account the views of the competitors. The regatta is designed to provide an affordable and enjoyable way for the small keelboat classes, IRC and Club Class Cruisers in the Solent to get together for a weekend of short races.
The Regatta is particularly looking forward to the Solent XODs, Bembridge One Design and Redwings classes entering the event.
Sponsors and supporters have very kindly contributed to the organising and prize giving of the event including Rolly Tasker Sails, The Queens Hotel Southsea, Calverton Finance, Spinlock, dpfx printers and RS Divers.
A BBQ and jazz band will be laid on at the Royal Naval Club and Royal Albert Yacht Club which all competitors and guests are welcome. Please contact the Royal Naval Club and Royal Albert Yacht Club on 02392 825924 to book and pay for your tickets.
