83 boats enjoyed beautiful sunshine and light warm breezes in the RLymYC Moore Blatch race last Thursday. 9 of those boats approached the start line flying a Class 3 Lymington Handicap pennant in a light sea breeze but only 4 completed the course after a mixture of false starts and retirements. Pathogem and Fly Orchid got away best in the up-tide beat but Tactile and Unity had passed Fly Orchid before rounding Colten. Pathogem yet again showed her light wind credentials by sailing away round the leeward mark at Pylewell and then beating up to the finish to record an easy fifth win out of six races. Behind her the heavier cruisers fought a tighter battle with the final outcome decided by the tactics and navigation chosen to cross the finishing line amongst a melee of boats and against a foul tide in a dying breeze. Tactile took second place with Unity third.
In IRC Class 1, the light airs beat up the shore to Echopilot saw Zarafa get a jump on the fleet and into clear air, she was followed by Boomerang down the run to Bridgefords buoy with the rest of the fleet playing catch up. The beat back to the finish against the tide proved tricky with some boats running aground trying to dodge the tide. Zarafa held onto her lead to take line honours and the handicap win followed by Boomerang and Fidelitas.
