CVRDA Rally at Roadford Lake Sailing Club this weekend

by Nessa Weedon-Jones 3 Jun 2014 12:08 BST 7-8 June 2014

Classic Finns, lowrider Moths, vintage variety

The coming weekend sees the Classic Finns combine with a lowrider moth fest and the third 2014 Classic and Vintage Racing Dinghy Association rally, all on the lovely setting of Roadford Lake in Devon.

Roadford has long been a popular venue with the Classic Finns, and once again this weekend's two day event forms their National Championship. At least 10 boats are expected, all with differing histories and pedigrees but all sharing the quality you would expect from the longest standing dinghy class in the Olympics.

As with every CVRDA event, a great variety of older dinghies are also expected; at least two 17 foot Jollyboats are competing, as well as three Solos of differing ages, including number 77, plus an Enterprise, Albacore, Merlins and more. If you have a dinghy designed before 1965 and built before 1985 come and join the fun. Camping on site and a friendly welcome guaranteed.

As an extra, 2014 sees the lake put its length and breadth to good use by also welcoming as guests all lowrider Moths. Various varieties of Magnum are planning to attend, as well as a Sprite and hopefully a Scow, along with others both fast and slow. The pre-1985 builds will take part in the CVRDA racing, the others will race for fun! This gathering promises a great opportunity to line up the designs and get a close look at how the class has developed over the years.

As if all that weren't enough to tempt you into attending, Saturday night is free BBQ night with - in true West Country tradition - free cider!

First race Saturday 7th at 12.55. To find out more go to www.cvrda.org
