The clubhouse was packed on 16th May for the prize giving at the end of the 31st year of this premier Solent event. It was also an opportunity to thank the 120 Warsash Sailing Club members who made it such a success in bringing enjoyment to over 1,000 sailors.
Howard Crossen from title sponsors Brooks Macdonald presented the trophies, with the Deputy Mayor of Fareham and Flag Officers from neighbouring clubs amongst the guests.
As well as over 50 prizes for individual classes, three special awards were also made. These are kept firmly under wraps until the night, so a great surprise for the recipients. The Founder's Salver, presented in memory of Tom Cozens one of the Club's forefathers, went to Jerry Hill, winner of the SB20 class in the Spring Championship and scoring 12 wins from 14 races. Peter Morton of Salvo took the Warsash Commodore's Cup after winning the 25-strong IRC2 class by a seven point margin.
The Brooks Macdonald Trophy, a magnificent stainless steel sculpture by John Mellows, is presented for outstanding achievement. This year it was awarded to Mike Moxley and his team on the HOD35 Malice. Mike has been a frequent competitor in the event over a good many years, always in the spirit of good sportsmanship. In addition this year, Malice won the Spring Championship and came third in the Spring Series in IRC3.
