In somewhat unpredictable weather this weekend, Hollowell Sailing Club staged another two days of racing.
The first took place on the Saturday - the club's Open Day. Whilst the rest of the UK suffered from the wrath of above, with rain and strong winds ravaging the country, the geography of Hollowell protected it from much of this. Visitors to the club were treated to an exciting afternoon of Sprint Racing; in almost perfect sailing conditions. That was until a sudden squall came through and capsized virtually every boat. Rob Dunkley was once again unlucky snapping yet another mast on his ISO. In spite of this, the racing continued and Solo sailor Keith Lancaster went on to win in the day's racing. Dave Holyoak finished second, whilst Sam and Andrew Wilford finished a courageous third in their RS400.
On Sunday, Hollowell SC staged the final day (Day 8) of the Sunday Spring Series. Weather conditions were again somewhat testing with the geography of Hollowell making it feel like gusts were coming from all directions.
Ian Clark who had been leading the Series was hoping to hang onto his lead to win overall. However Keith Lancaster, who until now had not featured in the top three positions overall, changed all that. Having battled last week to take two races out three, he annihilated the competition this week to win all three races of the day. Barny Creaser, Simon Deeks and Mary Mallard each picked up a second, while the Playle Duo finished a solid third in all three races.
The Series ended with Keith Lancaster winning the Sunday Spring Series overall, Ian Clark finished second and the Mike and Helen Playle finished third. Prizes were awarded by the club's Commodore Nicola Wilkinson. Rob Dunkley was the hero of the weekend, having snapped a mast on his ISO the day before, he was again towed in - this time helming for Maurice Barnes in his RS400 with mast damage following a shackle snapping.
This coming weekend is the RYA Push the Boat Out Weekend, details can be found at www.rya.org.uk/programmes/pushtheboatout/Pages/default.aspx
Racing at Hollowell also continues with the Day 5 of the Saturday Spring Series, followed by the Sail4Cancer Personal Handicap on the Sunday.
