A wonderful sunny Good Friday greeted the 80 plus competitors for the annual Round Hayling Island Windsurf and Paddle Board Race organized by Hayling Island Sailing Club.
Competitors face a number of challenges in this historic race, including navigating under the road bridge that links the island to the mainland, sailing through the remnants of the old railway bridge as well as through the narrow entrance to Langstone Harbour before the long gruelling slog across the seafront to complete the race at Hayling Island Sailing Club.
This year's event saw over 40 windsurfers complete the race and the overall winner was Robert Kent of Calshot Activity Centre, with his wife Annette taking honours in the women's section.
Race organizer John Rees commented, "This year's event was a tough race, the easterly wind conditions meant that the sailors had to work really hard, but we had a great day and hopefully next year we will
see even more finish."
