Clipper Round the World Yacht Race - Race 10 Day 24

by Clipper Ventures 10 Apr 2014 15:02 BST 10 April 2014

As the final miles tick away in the 5,800 mile race to San Francisco the lure of sailing under Golden Gate Bridge continues to spur on the fighting spirit amongst the fleet, as Race 10 rumbles on.

With GREAT Britain claiming line honours in Race 10, the rest of the fleet remain equally as determined to improve their position as just 50 miles now separates third and fifth place. As Invest Africa prepare for the last 10 miles of Race 10, skipper Rich Gould reflected on his team's performance having conquered the world's largest ocean- the mighty Pacific.

"I will remember forever the night that we crossed the Date Line. After spending all day with a reduced sail plan in anticipation of the arrival of the cold front eventually we increased sail and about three seconds later the cold front arrived.

"In an instant the surface of the sea went ballistic; Invest Africa was going like a bullet out of a gun, spray everywhere, 30 knots of boat speed on a regular basis, 19 miles covered over the ground in one hour!"

In the last 24 hours PSP Logistics and Jamaica Get All Right both submitted a request to activate their Stealth Mode as the team's historical duel continues to play out in the final stages of Race 10.

PSP Logistics position will be hidden for a period of 48 hours, and broadcast again at 0600 UTC Saturday 12 April. Jamaica Get All Right's, Stealth Mode request will be activated at 1800 UTC today, and broadcast again 48 hours later at 1800 UTC on Saturday 12 April.

Veteran skipper, Pete Stirling details the progress of his team in the last 24 hours.

"We have consistently made gains on the whole fleet and most importantly are no longer in twelfth place having overtaken Mission Performance earlier today. Now the next challenge is to stay ahead of them and try and continue to make gains on our nearest rivals. With a bit of luck and maybe some help from the weather gods we could possibly even find ourselves in tenth place by the time we cross the finish line under the Golden Gate Bridge."

The latest ETAs into San Francisco will be updated here.
