Soto 40 Regata de Chiloé 2014 - Day 4

by Soto 40 media team 29 Jan 2014 04:53 GMT 24 January - 1 February 2013

The fight for the podium intensifies

Today the Soto 40 fleet completed two races, a course of 17,5 nm and a windward – leeward course with an arrival in Punta Castillo. Today's winners were Bellavita II and Pisco Sour, the Soto 40 that leads the Overall, followed by Apolonia - both with 26 points.

In the first race the boats sailed from Roca Olsen to Canal Lemuy, where the Race Committee set a windward – leeward course with an arrival in Punta Castillo, located 6 nm from Castro.

The first race started near 1:30 pm with a 5 knots N wind that increased later to 7 knots and moved to the E. Jorge Errázuriz's Bellavita II was the first one to cross the finish line, achieving its first victory in this championship. Norberto Álvarez Vitale's Patagonia arrived in second place, followed by Jaime Charad's Apolonia.

The winner of the windward – leeward course was Bernardo Matte's Pisco Sour, which added its third victory in the 2014 VTR Chiloé race. After Pisco Sour arrived the Soto 40 Yali, property of Ramón Eluchans, and Apolonia.

At the end of the races, Patagonia was the leader of the Overall but in the 6th race there was an incident with contact and damage between Entel and Patagonia, reason why there was a rule 14 hearing in which Patagonia was penalized with a scoring penalty of 5 points.

Now we have a very fought Overall, in which Pisco Sour and Apolonia are leaders with 26 points each, while Mitsubishi is occupying the third place with 27 points.

Tonight the crews will enjoy a party in the Enjoy hotel located in Castro. Tomorrow the teams will have a day off and they will move to Mechuque to get ready for the start of the Mechuque-Calbuco race that will take place on Thursday at 11:30 am.
