RS300 Season Preview

Exciting times ahead for the class!

The big news is that The Boatyard at Beer is now the sole manufacturer and supplier of boats and parts from 1 January. The Boatyard were already making the hulls for RS so the same high construction quality will continue to apply to new boats. Parts such as spars, foils and sails will continue to be sourced from the same suppliers so the strong one-design ethos will also continue to apply.

However, we remain part of the RS Association and many of our events will be held in conjunction with the other RS classes. The main event of the year is the National Championship in Prestwick from 14-17 August. We were last in Prestwick for the Nationals in 2010 and it was nothing short of spectacular, well worth the journey to the west coast of Scotland especially as there's a thriving 300 fleet there. Other highlights are the Sprint Championship at Rutland in mid April and the Southern Areas at Hayling Island in June. The Sprints are a firm favourite of the class with around 12-14 x 15 minute races run over the weekend.

The full calendar is as follows:

  • Winters, Sheffield Viking, 8/9 March
  • Sprints, Rutland, 12/13 April
  • Southerns, Hayling Island, 21/22 June
  • Northerns, Ullswater (in conjunction with the Lord Birkett), 5/6 July
  • Nationals, Prestwick, 14-17 August
  • Easterns, Aldenham, 13/14 September
  • Inlands, Grafham, 11/12 October
  • End of Seasons, Datchet, 8/9 November

A full preview of the year can be found on our facebook group (www.facebook.com/groups/55859303803) along with the normal tips, banter and bad dancing.

As ever, there are many people wanting to buy second-hand boats but very few for sale. If you have an unused boat, please email us at and we'll help you get your boat on the market. We'd also be pleased to hear from you if you're a club sailor who would like to touch base with other 300 sailors – use the email address or the facebook page. We're still trying to trace the owners of around 100 boats so please get in touch.

Visit us on Stand B60 at the RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show, conveniently situated in the main hall close to the Exhibition Bar, where you can see a brand new Boatyard at Beer 300 on display (for sale during the show), talk to Ian Teasdale the builder and touch base with other RS300 sailors.
