Forget your Volvo Ocean Race and your Clipper Round the World Race – members of the Solution Class Association are taking part in the MWH "Around the World in 80 Days" Challenge. MWH, a leading contractor in the UK's wet infrastructure sector, has challenged its staff and their family and friends to cover the distance of 25,000 miles – the equivalent of going around the world – between 13 August and 31 October. The miles can be earned doing any form of physical activity – walking, running, cycling or even sailing. Five intrepid Solution Sailors have signed up to the challenge with the dual aim of getting fitter and raising money for the British Heart Foundation.
Halfway through the challenge, the Solution Sailors (Kevin Clark, Sam Davy, Kathryn Hayfield, Martin Tubb, Pete Warne) are currently topping the MWH leader board with an impressive 680 miles, which includes 225 miles clocked up during the Harken Solution National Championships at Bala SC over the August bank holiday weekend. The remaining miles have come from regular club racing and other activities. The overall challenge total currently stands at 5260 miles so there is some way to go to get around the world yet. The Solution Sailors will be getting together again on the weekend of 5/6 October at the Northampton SC Solution Open to increase their lead and help reach the 25,000 mile target.
The money raised for the British Heart Foundation by the participating teams will be matched by MWH. If you would like to support the Solution Sailors in their efforts, please make a donation at www.justgiving.com/MWHAroundTheWorldIn80Days
