Henri Lloyd is proud to announce they will be the title sponsor of a team in the Clipper 13-14 Round the World Race which starts from St Katherine's Dock in London on the 1st September this year. The official naming of the Clipper 70 will take place on Saturday 31st August before the fleet set sail on the first leg of the epic challenge.
The naming ceremony will take place at St Katherine's Dock, London E1W just a stone's throw from Henri Lloyd's new concession at Nauticalia within St Katharine Docks. The Dock area is open to the public so visitors will be able to view the naming event from the quayside.
The Henri Lloyd Clipper 70 racing yacht will be named by legendary yachtsman and round the world sailor, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston who is the driving force behind The Clipper Round the World Race, with Mr Paul Strzelecki, CEO of Henri Lloyd.
Paul Strzelecki, CEO of Henri Lloyd explained, "Henri Lloyd has been the Technical Clothing Supplier to the Clipper Race for the past five editions of the race. The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race echoes many of our own values of pioneering spirit and innovation as well as being one of the few truly global adventures."
As market leaders in specialist marine clothing Henri Lloyd has long been renowned for technical excellence, quality and durability and the Clipper Race puts this to the test without compromise. Paul Strzelecki expanded - "We know from the past 50 years that there is no greater test for foul weather gear than a global circumnavigation to demonstrate its true quality, but this is the first time we have taken the title sponsorship of our very own Clipper 70 in the Clipper 13-14 Race and support an individual crew on an entire voyage."
The Clipper Round the World Race will visit 12 countries, making stopovers at some of the world's most iconic ports, historic cities and trading nations. Team Henri Lloyd will literally be a flagship for the brand and will promote Henri Lloyd's specialist marine clothing and Lifestyle Apparel for which they have become renowned.
Paul Strzelecki explained, "Henri Lloyd has a strong representation around the world, with many active distributors as well as a number of our own stores in flagship locations but the Clipper Race will also give us the opportunity to explore new markets and develop new partnerships."
Team Henri Lloyd will be skippered by Canadian Yachtsman Eric Holden, who will lead his team around the globe during the epic voyage. Eric is a meteorologist and was also selected as the Official Weather Forecaster for the Canadian Sailing Team during London 2012 Summer Olympics. With his experience and knowledge he knows better than most the challenges that the weather has in store for the competitors and the importance of protecting against the elements.
"I am really pleased to welcome Henri Lloyd to become part of the Clipper Race. They have pioneered the development of all modern technical sailing clothing for 50 years and have provided foul weather gear to the Clipper Race crew for the past 10 years. On a more personal level the relationship with Henri Lloyd goes back many years with its founder, the late Mr Henri Strzelecki and his son Paul when I put my trust in Henri Lloyd foul weather gear for my own voyages and circumnavigations."
