This weekend a fleet of Hollowell's young sailors headed to Banbury to sail in the Anglian Water Series against Banbury, Middle Nene, Cransley & Northampton Sailing Clubs. In somewhat blustery and chilly conditions, over 40 young sailors from sailing clubs around Northamptonshire took part in the event.
Sailing conditions were tough for the youngsters, resulting in frequent capsizes and a good deal of spray. However this didn't prevent some keen and action-packed racing. Often the winner was the one that capsized the least or could get their boat upright the quickest!
Three short fleet races were held - Fast, Topper and Slow fleets. Jack Rockett of Banbury Sailing Club managed a couple of wins in his Laser to take the fast fleet. Joe Anstee from Northampton Sailing Club won all three races in the Topper fleet, while James Oakley of Middle Nene Sailing Club in his RS Tera was a little more consistent and won the slow fleet, leading home the Optimists.
The day's overall winner was Banbury sailor Jack Rockett followed by Hollowell's Izzy King and Mike Harding. The next AWS event will be held on home waters at Hollowell on the 14th July, 2013.
