The Sunbeams held their very well attended Open Day on Saturday 18th May. 11 guests joined the Class for some memorable sailing and racing on a perfect wind & weather day. They both crewed and helmed and enjoyed the welcome and hospitality of the Class and Club. Hopefully this will increase the numbers in this growing Class for both crew and new owners.

For those who couldn't make it today, please come along another day... we race on a Thursday evening, Sat afternoon and Sunday morning. Call Ian on 07967 969112 to get on a boat. www.solentsunbeam.co.uk for more details.

Forthcoming major events include:

  • Itchenor Invitation Keelboat Weekend 1st and 2nd June with Bembridge Redwings & BOD's
  • Cowes Classic Week 90th Anniversary Championships; Cowes Week; Nab Tower Rasce in aid of St Wilfrids' Hospice 31st August.

About the Solent Sunbeam

The largest of the Westmacott-designed keelboats, The Solent Sunbeam fleet races 3 times a week during the season. They are based at Itchenor Sailing Club and race at Cowes Classic Week, AAM Cowes Week and Itchenor Points Week at home here in Chichester Harbour.

All Sunbeam class yachts traditionally have names ending in the letter "Y". This year is our 90th Anniversary and is being marked by many special events both on and off the water. Three new GRP boats will begin their building programme this summer raising the Itchenor Solent Sunbeam fleet to 30 boats by the beginning of the 2014 season of which 21 are traditionally wooden hulls.
