The Class Boat was in action at the Tiger Trophy last weekend managing a very respectable 12th place out of 210 boats in the hands of Matt and Vyvo - who both admit the boat was hampered by their 'rustiness'!

The event saw 12 Fireballs enter, with 7 in the top 20 which shows the strength and depth of the Fireball fleet when pitched against other classes.

The Tiger Trophy was a great opportunity for prospective applicants to see the boat in action and check it over in the boat park. Plenty of 420 and 29er teams were present at the event, many of whom will soon be considering their next step in sailing...

The boat was built new by Winder Boats last year and has been generously kitted out with brand new equipment by Harken, FSE Robline, Selden, Pinnell and Bax, North Sails, Noble Marine, Winder Boats and Contender Sailcoth.

The good news is that applications are still being accepted from young teams wishing to use the class boat this year - the same boat which last year won the UK nationals in the hands of James and Dan Ellis: They applied last year, were chosen, and now have a very respectable national championship title to their name - so get your applications in and it could be you this year!

Applicants must be under 26 years of age and attendance at the National & Inland Championships, all the Golden Dolphin events and at least one training event are expected. Of course the boat will also be available to you should you wish to enter as many other events as you like; including the World and European Championships in Slovenia this September - an event which is set to attract well in excess of 100 boats and be one of the most competitive World Championships in many years!

See the website's calendar for full details of all events.

Applications for using the class boat close at Midnight on Friday 1st March 2013, with the winners announced on the Fireball stand at the 2013 RYA Dinghy Show.

Applications are now open and will close at Midnight on Friday the 1st of March 2013, with the winners announced on the Fireball stand at the 2013 RYA Dinghy Show.

Some experienced competitors found the challenge a bit too robust Yesterday's Frostbites in Dun Laoghaire Harbour were a test for organisers and competitors alike.
