Lymington Town Sailing Club Sunday Winter Dinghy Series - Race 9

by Barry Sticklen 10 Dec 2012 14:50 GMT 9 December 2012

Race 9 of the LTSC Winter Dinghy Series was sailed on the 9th December 2012. 27 boats had signed up, 15 fast fleet and 12 medium fleet. There were no slow fleet boats this week. The wind was coming from the South West at 13 knots gusting 20 knots.

Tig Williams was the race officer this week assisted by Fiona Mayo. They were only slightly late getting out of the starting blocks with it all to play for, as next Sunday, 16th December will be the last race of the series.

In the fast fleet Luke & Emma McEwen were the fist round in their RS 800 followed by another RS 800 sailed by Richard Keeton & Richard Lilley. Declan Clamp & Gary Stones in their B14 at this time were occupying third position over the water. The end of lap 2 saw the first and second places remain the same, but the B14 sailed by M.Cockrills & Nick had stolen the march on the other B 14 of Declan & Gary. At the end of the third and final lap the lap two positions were maintained. After the handicaps were applied Luke & Emma kept hold of the win but the B 14 of M. Cockrills & Nick took second place from the 2nd RS 800 of Richard Keeton & Richard Lilley, third.

In the medium fleet at the end of lap 1 Ian Sanderson was in the lead in his Blaze. Mark Barwell & Louise Johnson were about 20 seconds behind in their Merlin Rocket with Richard Russell in his RS 100 third over the water. Mark & Louise were gaining on Ian to take the lead by the end of the second lap by 6 seconds. This lead would be stretched to about thirty seconds by the end of the third and final lap. Richard maintained his third over the water throughout. When the computer had done its work though Mark & Louise discovered they had not done enough to keep the win as Ian had the advantage on corrected time by about a minute. Also Richard had been relegated to fourth place by Tim Knight sailing his Laser who took third.
