Gill sponsored Sunsail Racing Series - Final

by Terry Hunt, Sunsail 19 Nov 2012 15:06 GMT 17 November 2012

Saturday 17th November saw the conclusion of the 2012 Gill sponsored Sunsail Racing Series in which the 20 of the 21 qualifiers took to the water for the final.

With three races planned and with no discards, mistakes would count heavily, so consistency was going to be key.

The race officer had the first race underway promptly at 10.30am with the wind ranging from 7 – 12kts and from the NW throughout the day.

Rumour has it, the overall positions were not decided until meters from the finish line of the final race, again the Sunsail F40's providing great close one design racing.

After a great day on the water it was back to the warmth of Portsmouth Harbour YC, where the overall trophy and Gill prizes were handed out.

Congratulations to Ian Martin and team 'Stagless Stag Do' on taking the overall win and being crowned the 2012 Sunsail Racing Series Champions, followed by Martin Hough and James Gair.

The 2012 season has yet again been a real success for the Sunsail F40's, seeing a total of 106 separate entries over eight weekends of racing throughout the year. The biggest weekend saw 26 boats on the start line and a few boats have even competed in every weekend!

If you wish to blow the cobwebs away with some fantastic one design racing, the 2013 Sunsail Racing Series kicks off in March and runs through to October. For further details on the racing series or Sunsail Racing in general, please contact Terry Hunt at .
