Fast flowing River Ouse makes racing difficult
The rearranged Yorkshire Ouse Streaker Paddle meeting sponsored by Sail-Register nearly suffered the same fate as the earlier meeting with the river high and fast flowing. The light variable wind lead to difficulty in making progress against the current on the up wind legs.
In the first race Chris Wright established a big lead by just getting round the first mark first before a lull in the wind gave him a commanding lead for the rest of the race. Steve Chilton rounded second chased by Pete Tyerman who managed to get passed him on the second beat as did Phillip David and these were the final position as a dropping wind left the others well behind.
The second race was in similar conditions but soon the wind died altogether leaving everyone struggling to make way against the current. Pete Tyerman managed the first beat best but was caught by Chris Wright and Philip David on the second beat. Phillip David then got caught when he found it difficult to get out of the current before the leeward mark. Chris Wright and Pete Tyreman sailed the rest of the race neck and neck with Pete Tyreman just managing to cross the line first.
The last race was cancelled as it was no longer possible to go up stream.
