Star European Championship at Yacht Club Sanremo - Day 3

by Anna Rita Arborio 17 Apr 2012 17:28 BST 13-19 April 2012

The whole day has been spent ashore, today, by the crews taking part in the Star European Championship – Casino Cup, due to the lack of wind which forced the Committee to cancel today’s races.

Standings remain unchanged, with Poland’s Mateusz Kusznierewicz and Dominik Zycki (Gdanski Klub Zeglarski) at the top; second place for Swedes Fredrik Loof and Max Salminen (KSSS) and third place for Norwegians Sigurd Melleby Eivind and Morland Pedersen Petter (KNS Yacht Club).

Tonight the Sanremo Casino will be the host of the Championship Gala and the middle-championship Prize Awarding Ceremony. Prizes are going to be awarded to the winners of the first three races run so far and precisely: Mateusz Kusznierewicz and Dominik Zycki (Gdanski Klub Zeglarski), winners of Race One, Germans Robert Stanijek e Frithjof Kleen, del NRV, first classified in Race Two, and Portuguese Alfonso Domingos and Federico Melo (CNC), winners of Race Three.

During the ceremony, special career prizes are going to be awarded to the Olympic champions, now present at the European Championship as trainers, Valentin Mankin and Mark Reynolds.

Day Four of races will start tomorrow, Wednesday, at 11 am.

The Star European Championship – Casino Cup is organized by the Sanremo Yacht Club in cooperation with the “Circolo Velico Capo Verde” and thanks to the support of Regione Liguria and Municipality of Sanremo; sponsors of the event are Banca Carige, Slam, Portosole CNIS S.p.A., Sanremo Royal Hotel and CieloGioielli Milano 1914.
