PSP help Toe in the Water get to the RORC Easter Challenge

by Kornelia Shanley 5 Apr 2012 19:50 BST 6-8 April 2012

The sponsor of the PSP Southampton Boat Show is lending its talents to a worthy cause this week as it is transporting important sailing equipment that will allow injured servicemen to take part in competitive sail racing over Easter.

Worldwide boat transportation firm, PSP, is moving a number of items, including sails and cradles, from Cowes to Gosport on behalf of Toe in the Water, a volunteer-based charity which re-inspires profoundly injured servicemen and women through competitive sailing as part of their rehabilitation.

Having recently been donated a Farr 52 race yacht, the charity was keen to use it over the bank holiday weekend and compete in the RORC Easter Challenge with a mixed crew of able bodied and injured servicemen.

However, a specialist transportation firm was needed to get the equipment from Cowes to its base at the Joint Services Adventurous Sail Training Centre in time for the race.

The mayday call for logistical help came from Toe in the Water’s ambassador, Dee Caffari MBE, who has used PSP to transport her equipment in the past - including when she was taking part in the Barcelona World Race.

And PSP was only too happy to help.

Frank Dixie, Managing Director of PSP, said: “Dee is a good friend of ours and we’re so proud of her work as an ambassador for Toe in the Water. To transport this equipment was the least we could do for such a great cause.”

Dee Caffari MBE added: “We’re a very small charity and moving the sails and cradles is such a specialist job that we could not have done it on our own. We’re so grateful to PSP, which has not only saved us a huge amount of money but has also made the whole process smooth and easy.”
