Haven Series Stroombank Passage Race

by Neale Fuller 28 Jul 2011 09:37 BST 23-24 July 2010

Fourteen boats entered this race and were greeted with a 15 knot northerly wind. After the start it was a spinnaker run to Medusa. Eclipse gybed and was easily first as everyone else over stood the mark. Then it was a tight reach to North East gunfleet and Longsand Head with white sails. Fourglory was first round, then Berserker, Bule Gila, Suds and Eclipse.

After the rounding of Longsand Head some boats hoisted their asymmetric and made gains , while others waited until the wind dropped and shifted slightly and then raised their spinnakers.

Competing for the first time in a passage race was Will Patten in Palladin, an Excalibur 36. Will gained a creditable third place under IRC handicap.

First into Ostend was Fourglory, followed by Berserker, Suds and Bule Gila. On corrected time Des Cowan in Eclipse won the race overall under IRC Handicap.

Under Haven Handicap G Pickard in his Contessa 26 La Mouette claimed overall victory by 38 minutes.
