2-3 July 2011
On Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd July, Dabchicks Sailing Club hosted the 'Blackwater Gauntlet' for Match Racing in Sonata One Designs. Five local Sonatas competed, with 'round robins' on each day, so that all boats raced each other twice.
The Race Officer Paul Jackson and his team were on board the Dabchicks' new committee boat 'Centenary', acquired and named to celebrate the clubs Centenary year in 2011. The racing took place over short windward-leewards with two laps and a downwind finish, each race about 20 minutes long.
During Saturday's round robin last years winners 'Camel' won all their matches, with 'The Apprentice' a close second with only one loss. On Sunday 'The Apprentice' evened the score after 'Camel' infringed at the start and picked up a penalty. A race off between 'Camel' and 'The Apprentice' was required to decide the overall winner. The tie break race was a very close affair, but 'Camel' eventually held a slender lead to the finish and defended their title for 2011.
A detailed report and video can be found on the Dabchicks SC website.
