The second annual Brummy Bender team racing event hosted by The Univeristy of Birmingham Sailing Club took place last weekend.

With perfect weather of sunshine and force 2-3 the racing was superb with 115 races completed. 20 teams battled through a group stage of 3 flights of 7,7,6 teams. The winning teams of Cardiff, Nottingham and Durham progressed into a gold league, for a second league stage.

After the second round robin the racing was completed with semi-finals and finals. The first SF between Durham and Cambridge was won by Durham and Leeds beat Bristol Ladies in the other to book their place in the final.

As the final started the sun appeared beneath the cloud to produce a beautiful sight of the blue and yellow fireflies in the setting sun. The first race was tight but was eventually won by Leeds, the second race was less close and Leeds won with a 1,2,5 combintation.

Well done to Leeds and check out lots of photos taken at the event on our website students.bugs.bham.ac.uk/sailing
