In 1930 a young lad by the name of Peter Wain took up an interest in sailing at Midland Sailing Club in Birmingham, although it was four years later that he officially joined at the age of 16 since there wasn’t a Junior Section back then. And Peter has been a member of the club ever since, chalking up an impressive 80 years of membership.

In honour of this, Peter was presented with an engraved glass paperweight by the Commodore, Paul Leather, and the MP for Birmingham Ladywood, Shabana Mahmood at the “Friends and Family Day” on Sunday.

With light winds and lots of sunshine it was ideal conditions just messing about on the water and over the afternoon guests were taken out for a sail around the lake, including Shabana and her family. Several children also had their first taste of sailing, and we even had some passing joggers come over and ask to have a go.
