B14 Europeans at Yacht Club de Carnac - Overall

by Célia Mas-Delfault 10 Jul 2010 20:44 BST 8-10 July 2010

The final day of the B14 European championships took place in Carnac on Saturday 10th July in 8 to 10 knots of wind and another day of brilliant sunshine. The first race got away when the wind finally settled to the west after a two hour on the water postponement.

In the first race it was Tim Harrison and Jonny Ratcliffe that led at the first mark pursued by the North Sails team David Hayes and Richie Bell then Guy Bancroft and David Grace. The marginal planning conditions suited Tim and Jonny who pulled out a healthy lead. The North Sails team had a comfy 2nd until Guy and David ventured out to the left on the last beat to overhaul The North Team who finished 3rd. Scott Cunningham and Jason Walker pulled through to take fourth by the finish.

In the 2nd and what turned out to be the last race of the event it was Scott and Jason who took who led at the first mark. They sailed a safe race and held onto the end. Behind them there was a tight race, Tim and Jonny pulling through to take 2nd from Chris Bines and Dave Gibbons 3rd.

Overall it was the Australians who came out at the top of the results Guy Bancroft and David Grace sailed a consistent series with their worst result a 4th. Australians Scott Cunningham and Jason Walker came 2nd with 2 wins in the series and Tim Harrison and Jonny Ratcliffe in third were crowned European Champions.

On Monday the World Championships begin, reigning world champions Guy Bancroft is the firm favourite following the win in this pre event. This event has shown that there is stiff competition for this years world championships and Guy will have to maintain this consistency to hold on to his crown.
