Radio Control Lasers at Lee Valley Sailing Club

by Henry Farley 27 Oct 2004 09:56 BST 24 October 2004

There was some very close racing and every one had at least one moment to savour.

The Lee Valley Challenge 2004 got off to a start in bright sunshine and a brisk breeze. Ron Cringle started well with 2 wins then Richard Hesketh butted in. We took an early lunch and Robert Kemball must have had something special.

He won the next 3 races even though starting last in one of them. Then Rodney Latham, who had been consistently near the front most of the time, got the next one.

The hooligans, AKA two dinghy lads new to RC Racing, finally got there act together for race 8. They reckoned not to have played our game before but I just wonder!!

Nick Lee thought he had enough but was bullied into staying for the last race and promptly won it.

So 6 of the 9 won at least one race.

Frankie Bernard couldn't stay to the end and Roger had to give up too due to a painful back. That was a great pity as he began to show good promise until a battery let him down. In the end it was very close with 1 point separating each of the first 4 places.

Ron pipped Robert by that vital point to take the trophy.

Overall Results:
1st Ron Cringle 124;
2nd Robert Kemball 108;
3rd Peter Jones 40;
4th Rodney Latham 12;
5th Richard Hesketh 48;
6th David/Simon Jones 35.
