45 entries for IRC South West Championships – part of Ocean BMW Torbay Week 2009
There is still time to enter the IRC South West Championships – held this year as part of Ocean BMW Torbay Week.
So far 45 boats have entered and organisers say there is – just – still time for more to enter.
Entries in many of the classes are up on last year, something the Torbay Week management group attributes to good organisation, a successful formula and the fact that entry fees have also been held at last year’s levels together with the provision of free berthing.
The six day Ocean BMW Torbay Week, which starts on Friday August 21 is run by the Bay’s four sailing and yacht clubs and as well as a full racing schedule with a four day yachting championship, several dinghy national championships and team events, also includes social entertainment each night at the clubhouses.
Free berthing is again provided at town moorings sponsored by Tor Bay Harbour Authority, together with free launching for dinghies taking part.
Torbay Week director, Tim Whitehead, said: “We’re immensely pleased with the numbers of yachts entered so far and there’s still another two weeks to go before the event. Last year we had 30 IRC yachts so it shows that we provided the right format for sailors. The fact that numbers are up 50% is fantastic.”
And he praised the way the four clubs have again worked well together in order to ensure a successful and significant event for the south coast.
Entry can be made using the online payment system on the Torbay Week website – www.torbayweek.co.uk or manually by sending an application form which can be found on the website to the administration department c/o Royal Torbay Yacht Club, Beacon Terrace, Torquay, TQ1 2BH.
Torbay Week is run by the Torbay Week Management Group for Babbacombe Corinthian SC, Brixham YC, Paignton SC, Royal Torbay YC.
Around 200 boats and 700 competitors took part in 2008. The event is supported by the English Riviera Tourist Board and Tor Bay Harbours.
