25-29 September 2007
RYA Team GBR’s quest for ISAF World Team Racing Championship success is underway after racing commenced at the Real Club Nautico Gandia in Valencia this morning.
A total of 17 teams from eight nations are taking part in the Championships with RYA Team GBR entering two teams in the Open event and one in the inaugural U21 competition.
Team racing is not about being first past the post, it is about the three boats in each team outwitting and outmanoeuvring the boats of other nations to gain a superior overall standing.
Competitors enjoyed perfect conditions to try out the brand new Lenam 420s used for the Championships during yesterday’s practice race before the opening ceremony.
Up to 70 races are scheduled to take place on day one with finals and prize-giving bringing the Championships to a close on Saturday 29 September.
