Eight visitors joined an equal number from the home fleet on the River Thames at Medley Sailing Club for the Bossom’s Cup which was the final round of the British Moth Travellers Trophy. With Ian Howlett as PRO, the marks were laid to provide the maximum challenge to the tactical skills of the competitors.
As has been the case all season, Rob Wilder (Tamesis Club) was the man to beat but in the first race he had to pull out all the stops to get past Tim Davison (Medley) and Colin Hall (Hunts). In the second race Wilder had no such problem and led from start to finish with Hall and Davison taking the minor places.
In the third race Davison led for the first two laps before falling into a hole and being overtaken by Hall who was in turn overtake by Wilder. With the trophy won Wilder opted out of the fourth race leaving Hall to take a comfortable win. Davison was second having been challenged by David Taylor (Upton Warren) and Dave Cannon (Medley).
With many Moth notables acting as the shore party, the event was well run and even better catered and was a perfect end to the Somerville Trophy season.
