There's a report on Facebook that Winder have been convicted of selling trailers without type approval. So far I haven't seen an official announcement from DVSA.

I think that's a different case. In much the same vein though, it seems DVSA are hunting down small trailer builders who are lax with the paperwork.

It occurs to me that small unbraked trailers might be appropriate for exemption from IVA and construction and use regs. Have to lookup if there's any way of proposing that.

The judgement in full has been posted on many sites on fb.
They should have known better . It was very stupid. It’s not like it was just a paperwork problem, they were selling trailers that did not conform to the regs ( no type approval)  . These regs have been in place since 2014 , they have now got to modify 146 trailers at a cost of £30,000 if the official announcement is to be believed. Plus they were fined over £4000.

But what actually needs to be changed on the trailers other than riveting on the correct data plate?

No idea  .But riveting on a data plate on 146 trailers isn’t going to cost @£30, 000. I would think there have been other things they haven’t been doing , ie lighting board arms, reflectors, extra lights etc .

I bought my last double trailer from rob at sovereign trailers in 2013 . He had been a manufacturer rep at meeting with the government department over these changes. And we had long conversations over these changes. The bottom line is it 7 years since these changes happened, there is no excuse for not following them in 2021 .

That's about 200 quid a trailer. If they've got to be collected from all over the country and then delivered again I don't reckon they can be doing very much else to them.

If all is needed is the plate , there is no need to collect them. All you need is a man, a car and a rivet gun  Smile
