  • Raivavae, even less known and rarely visited by sailboats. Almost fully self sustained, a small mountainous island with a lagoon
  • After crossing the Panama Canal we sailed to the Galápagos Islands. Thereafter we left the 'beaten track'. Instead of continuing to the Marquesas (most scenic, too), we sailed much further south to the Gambier islands, surrounded by a lagoon

  • Moana when I picked her up in La Rochelle
  • Niue - Magic beauty, accessible through narrow tracks through the jungle
  • Niue - The humpback whales played through the boat on the mooring. They were curious, very careful and playful. They came as close as 3-4m to the stern of the boat, just carefully checking. An unforgettable experience
  • Austral Islands - In one of the coral caves above the ground we saw alive corals…
  • Next we took off for Raivavae, even less known and rarely visited by sailboats. Almost fully self sustained, a small mountainous island with a lagoon. One road around and one across. People are welcoming. A lot of handcraft
  • The special things about Rurutu- it is in fact a raised coral reef, not volcanic rock but coral rock in the jungle /bush. Amazing

  • Tanna - This man came to the boat to pick up donations for his wife and kids. Another sailor met her the day before. She and her newborn are both undernutritioned and she cannot properly breastfeed. We had milk powder, protein powder (instructed him),
  • Raivavae - Amazing carving artwork, this was unfortunately pre-ordered by a Tahitian dealer. Few artists are still around, and it is not easy to find them. He also manufactures drums. And has drumming sessions with his mates regularly
  • Vanuatu - Tanna Island - Not many can afford a horse either
  • Niue - The water is breathtakingly clear. Visibility 80m
  • The islands of Vanuatu are worldwide most struck-by-catastrophes. Earthquakes, the active volcanos, cyclones occur frequently. This is coming closer to the volcano. The nearby villages have their essential gardens covered by ash frequently
  • Here in Raivavae still, dug out canoes are built, carved by hand
  • Vanuatu - Tanna Island - Registration /check in with customs and immigration
  • Sailing to the Gambier archipelago
