Eureka on record pace, Delta Wing heading back to Sydney

by News Editor on 28 Oct 2000
Some 10 hours into the Leasecorp Gosford to Lord Howe race Bob Robertson's 60 footer Eureka is ahead of the existing record pace.

The race record of 40 hours 33 minutes 31 seconds, established by Dr. Tony Fishers Helsal II could be under threat as Eureka is now 123 miles east of the start line.

However conditions are at the moment easing and it seems likely that the early pace, which saw Eureka surfing along at 10-12 knots will not be sustained.

At 11pm, Eureka was 14 miles ahead of Occasional Coarse Language, with Fidelis, then AFR Midnight Rambler spread over another 12 miles.

At the same time Delta Wing initially thought to be heading for Pittwater is now off Long Reef, as it slowly returns to the Harbour. She was being tracked at two minute intervals for some period. All is now well.
