Hobie Tiger Super Series 2000

by Mal Gray on 4 Oct 2000
The Hobie Tiger Super Series 2000 is an initiative of Hobie Cat Australia and the Hobie Tiger Dealers of Australia, which is intended to bring the new form of catamaran sailing (FORMULA 18) to the Australian sailing public.

Hobie Cat Tigers are spinnaker-equipped, 18 ft catamarans built to the international Formula 18 rule which strictly controls construction, sail area and dimensions, to enable all sailors to compete on similar craft without the need for corrected-time yardstick results. The Tiger is just one design from a large collection of Formula 18 classes available on the international market.
Australian Tigers, which are easily identified by their fluorescent yellow sailplan, are beginning to reflect the benefit of years of research and sailing development within the flourishing European sailing scene, by their rapidly improving performances in Australian open catamaran regattas.

The series which is well supported by Ronstan, Racing Line, Yalumba Wines, Barz Optics as well as the Hobie network carries over $7500.00 value in prizes.

Six major regattas on the Australian east coast have been chosen as venues for this premiere event. Open to Hobie Cat Tigers, the series will be held in conjunction with existing regattas and an accumulative points system.

Events are as follows:

November Lake Cootharaba Cat Challenge
December Rathmines Regatta
January Hobie Cat Nationals South Australia
February NSW Hobie Titles Byron Bay Sailing Club
March Pitwater Cat Club Regatta
April QLD Hobie Titles Gold Coast Cat Club
