Palm Beach Offshore Regatta Farr 40 One Design Results

by Jason Rowed on 12 Mar 2001
Saturday turned on a light and variable building breeze, with two races scheduled for the day.

Race one saw the 7 Farr 40's get underway in the usual nip and tuck One Design race style. One mistake and 'there goes another boat'. With a different leader at every mark it was a hard fought race between Emotional Hooligan, Buon Giorno and Richard Perini in Corinthian Doors. Eventually it was Marcus Blackmore and his team on Emotional Hooligan who picked the shift of the day and took the Gun smoke as the reward, second place was Buon Giorno followed in third by Corinthian Doors. 4th Rob Skinner's Weapon, 5th Leroy Brown, 6th Truant and 7th Neville Creighton and his Shockwave boys sailing Envy.

Race Two saw the Quinn brothers sailing Truant step out to lead around the first two marks closely followed by Hooligan and Corinthian Doors. This was certainly a close race with the first bunch of Farr 40's only boat lengths apart, all of them just waiting for each other to make a mistake and take the advantage. With a slight crew work mishap onboard Truant it was Perini and his crew that took the opportunity to pounce and they slipped into the lead, again closely followed by Emotional Hooligan, Buon Giorno and Weapon. Corinthian Doors managed to hold on to win by half a boat length from Emotional Hooligan, Buon Giorno, Weapon, Truant, Leroy Brown and Envy.

Sunday turned out to be typical Sydney on a bad day, raining and no wind. After a delay of 1 1/2hrs the race committee called of the days racing due to lack of wind.
The racing resumed at the clubhouse bar with Garry 'Guddo' Gudmunson taking the lead at the start and winning by at least one Jug of Bundy and coke.
