Dear Sir

Solomon Airlines Brisbane and Gizo Yacht Race 1996

May I take this opportunity to extend to the people of the Solomon Islands and the people of Gizo for the magnificent welcome that they put on for the recent yacht race.
May I, in particular, on behalf of the skippers and crew, thank the ordinary people of Gizo who went out of their way to welcome 150 odd sailors from Australia.
The welcome given to Andrew Strachan and his yacht 97 was quite moving.
The sailors were pleased to see the involvement of so many of the people from Gizo in the events organised by the Gizo Yacht Club and, in particular, the Vaka Tepe Week functions themselves.
The Solomon Islands offers a great deal to cruising and racing sailors.
As part of the process of considering whether there should be another race to the Solomon Islands and, if so, when, the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron will look at Auki, Talagi, as well as Gizo and such other harbours as Solomon Airlines and the Solomon Islands Tourist Authority recommend that we consider.

Yours faithfully

Dayle Smith
Race Director
