Vendee Globe...Golding into trade winds

by Susan Preston Davis on 13 Feb 2001
Only very brief contact with Mike Golding on board Team Group 4 today.
Golding reports that all is well on board but low fuel reserves continue to
cause concern and all communication is kept to a minimum.
We can see from the latest position report at www.vendeeglobe.com that at
0802 hours this morning that Golding had managed to extend his lead over
fellow British skipper Josh Hall on EBP EspiritPME Gartmore to 118 miles.
Both skippers were in 39.96 knots of breeze and sailing at an average speed
of 9 knots. The pair are now in the Trades and Golding predicted that he
had at least another 2 - 3 days on the upwind starboard tack he is
currently on. By now both Golding and Hall will have slipped under the
3000-miles-to-go mark and it promises to be a close match between the two
all the way to the finish line.
