Telstra Cup IRC Championship goes down to the wire

by News Editor on 16 Dec 2000
The Reichel Pugh 80 footer Shockwave revelled in the light conditions to win the 5th race of the 2000 Telstra Cup today, three miles off Sydney Heads.

Warren John's Heaven Can Wait, steered by Jamie Wilmot was second, 3 and half minutes back on corrected time.

Shockwave's class competitor, the Swan 48 Loki found the light conditions unsuited to her heavy weight. In the sticky seas, Loki recorded a 7th.

However in the afternoon race, in only a little more breeze, Loki sailed well to be 2 minutes ahead of Sanctuary Two, with Aera third, Addiction fourth. Shockwave was back in 7th position.

Going into the final day, the top four IRC boats are now within only a few places of each other.

Shockwave, with 3,1,5,4,1,7 is a single position ahead of Loki, with 7,3,1,1,7,1 while Addiction is 3rd and Heaven Can Wait is 4th.
