Ord Minnett Farr 40 division - OVERALL Provisional Results - Races 1 & 2

by Rob Kothe, Sail-world.com on 2 Dec 2000
Emotional Hooligan (Marcus Blackmore) and Southern Star 2 (John Calvert-Jones) are sharing first place in the Farr 40 One Design division after the completion of racing on day 1 in the Ord Minnett 2000 Short Ocean Racing regatta sailed off Sydney Heads today.

Corinthian Doors holds 3rd place, with the Whiston brothers doing battle for 4th (Smile) and 5th (Fruit Machine).

Envy is currently in 6th position, with Bon Giorno in 7th and Brighton Star in 8th place.

In today's racing the difference between the boats in lumpy seas, was primarily crew work. The starts were comparatively clean with the more experienced teams positioned best.

Steve Ellis on Buon Giorno suffered in the morning race, with a 360 penalty after a port & starboard incident, otherwise he would be more highly placed.

The Whiston brothers have shown their successful Beneteau IMS campaigning which culminated in the Kenwood Cup has fitted them well for this competitive One Design class.

However it is not suprising that the three most seasoned boats, who all competed in the last Farr 40 World championships have shown through after the first day.

John Calvert Jones as current world Champion is clearly favourite for the coveted Australian Admiral's Cup Farr 40 position however Richard Perini's Corinthian Doors and Marcus Blackmore's Emotional Hooligan are going to push hard all the way to the end of the contest. The Whiston brother's have the track record and the teams however to spoil the party and they could easily be sharing the silverware.

Full results for all divisions of the Ord Minnett 2000 Short Ocean Racing Regatta will be posted on the official Ord Minnett regatta website at http://www.sail-world.com as the evening progresses.
