Katie Spithill reports on progress to the Rolex Quarters today
by Rob Kothe on 30 Nov 2000
Katie & her 3 team mates were relaxed after scraping into the Rolex 2000 ISAF Women's Match Racing Worlds Quarter Finals in St. Petersburg Florida today.
In a phone call home, Katie reported that the cancellation of the second round because of the light conditions had helped her into the quarters.
The Women's Match racing circuit is watching the Australian carefully. Given her brothers pre-eminence on the Men's circuit, the quarter final skippers fear the 18 year old & her young crew who often train with Jamie & his crew could threaten any of their opponents.
Katie has been pleased with her boatspeed, especially downwind. She feels tight crew work is helping her team. She is relaxed and happy, feeling that her opponents are going to be under much more pressure, given her lowly ranking.
