14 to 15 with mike golding
by Susan Preston Davis on 30 Nov 2000
Only brief contact with Mike Golding, on board team Group 4, today. He is currently enjoying speeds of 14 to 15 knots and is happy to be moving so fast and in the right direction.
He is confident that in the long term - coming out of the other side of the Doldrums - he will be well placed.
Golding, however, continues to have problems with his water making facility and has now resorted to a major re-build of the machine. He is still on his emergency water rations and in a voice full of irony he reported 'It doesn't look like rain today'.
A small boost for the morale this afternoon as the latest position report from the Vendée Globe Race Headquarters has Golding no longer last on the water, as fellow Brit Richard Tolkien continues to head back towards the Cape Verdes where he plans to moore-up and effect repairs to his genoa and furling system.
