Try Sailing Day

by Diana Liptrot on 17 Nov 2000
The inaugural Australian Try Sailing day was held on Sunday, 12th November with
all States in Australia participating. The event was organised by the State Yachting
Associations in conjunction with the Boating Industry Association.

In Victoria, 44 yacht clubs welcomed visitors and offered the opportunity to have a sail - some
as part of their racing for the day, others as a sailing lesson, while due to the high numbers
who attended at most clubs, some visitors were only able to have a brief sailing experience -
however from reports received, many will be returning to participate in learn to sail programs
and club activities.

All visitors in Victoria were asked to register on arrival at a club and will now go into a draw to
win a Sunsail charter boat holiday on Sydney Harbour.

The Victorian Yachting Council will be inviting clubs to participate in next year's Try Sailing
Day which will be held on Sunday, 11th November - an ideal time to start sailing with the
whole season ahead.
